For some reason BFS plays a lot of county fairs. We got to see them in 2007 at the Stanislaus County Fair. We got lucky and they were playing at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton this year – much closer. If you just read the lyrics you would think these guys were sad and totally unhappy in love. Maybe they are… But what I hear are friends having a great time, making fun of themselves for some of the stupid things they have done. That really comes out in their shows too. They had a 6 PM and an 8PM show this year. They played mostly the same songs at both, but the clowning around between songs was quite different.
It was a fun way to spend a Friday evening.
RAAM wasn’t all bad, really. We developed some great camaraderie with some of the riders and crew, especially in our van. We did get to see some interesting parts of the country and have some great experiences.
We drove through Monument Valley, one of the most iconic roads in the country. It was about midnight, so all we saw was strip of road in the tunnel of the headlights. I didn’t even realized that we had gone through it until a few hours later. (more…)
We just finished crewing for a team in the Race Across America. RAAM is a non-stop bicycle race from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD.
We’ve debated for a couple of days how we would describe our RAAM experience. At the end of the race we were unhappy with the net result . After a week of very little sleep and some growing personality conflicts, the race ended for us on a sour note. We’ve thought about not posting this write up, but decided that we wanted to describe the race from our perspective, good and bad. (more…)
