Barb’s Race Recap/Training Update

Barb’s Race 2010 was overall a great disappointment to me – my swim and run were SLOW!  My bike time was 16 minutes faster than 2009, but I really attribute that to my new race bike.  I barely trained for 2010 and my results show it.

Thom did get a few good pictures.

This is my favorite as  I had  such fun on the bike.

This is coming in to the transition to the run.

The run in to the finish,  thankfully, he did not get any pictures of me nearly barfing.

My quad injury seems to have finally healed and I am settling into a groove with my weekly runs.  I have the lofty goal of 8 miles a week through December.  I’ve been doing a five mile run on Saturdays, while Thom works with our trainer, Shawna.  Thursday mornings at 4:30  Thom and I have been doing intervals.  Those kick my butt, but intervals are how you get stronger.  Tuesday mornings I do a short run by myself that I don’t always get in,  sometimes work gets in the way.  I’m still working with Shawna Monday and Wednesday mornings.  Those workouts never get easier.

It looks like we’re going to do a bit of traveling in 2011, so I don’t know how many races I’ll sign up for.  For sure I’ll be doing Barb’s again.  We’ll see what others I can fit in.

Trek Tri – June 27, 2010

June 27th, 2010

I signed up for a Sprint Tri midway between my two Half Ironmen so that I could race and not suffer.  :-)   This race was perfect for that.

Grand Canyon 2010

June 17th, 2010

  • This is only a mediocre view by Grand Canyon standards.
The Grand Canyon.   The name says it all.  There may be no more iconic natural wonder.  Google says that there is a  “Grand Canyon of..”  Yellowstone, Yosemite, Texas, and even Pennsylvania.  While these are fine gorges, I’m sure; there really can be Only One.  For years we have talked about going there to ride mountain bikes.  The National Park Service generally has a “no bikes on trails” rule.  The Forest Service (FS) does not and some of the land north of the Canyon is FS land.  So while you can’t ride in the Canyon (which is NPS land), you can ride the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is FS land.  The Rainbow Rim Trail (RRT) was created especially for mountain bikers and it is spectacular. World’s Toughest Half

May 24th, 2010

When I started doing triathlons in 2008 I came across this race.  With a name like that, I immediately knew I would have to do it.  In late 2009, I decided this would be the year.
