  • Look ma! No racks! With the racks removed, the mounts are hardly noticeable. It takes maybe 45 seconds to remove each side.

  • Again, no racks. You can see the two upper mount plates. These are the parts that don't look like the ones in the diagram

  • This is the lower, rear mounting point. It was the hardest part to install. You have to remove the turn signals (notice the hole at the top of the image), and the license plate mount. I don't know how this kit would work with a fenderless bike. The bracket attaches between the plate holder and the fender. The turn signals are remounted on the bracket, so they are visible when bags are installed.

  • This is the basic Sw-Motech kit. The instructions are essentially a parts list and a diagram. It wasn't hard to figure out, except that those small black pieces near the top do not look like the parts in the diagram. It all worked out, but it did give me pause. The kit comes with a few longer bolts to be used if the passenger grab rails are installed. I don't have the rails, so I had parts left over.

  • Here is the completed project. It took about 2 hours to put in the racks and Givi adapters.

  • View from the rear. The bags, Givi E21s, are about 35 inches across. This makes them just 2 inches wider than the mirrors.

  • This is the passenger peg, with the lower mount point for the racks clamped on to it.

  • Here is the rack, without bags. The bags should remove at the press of a button, but there is a tolerance problem somewhere. I have to open the bag and press the release from inside the bag to remove them. Not a big deal, but something I'll fix in the next week or so. Notice the large knob above the rack, next to the seat. This is the optional locking knob that keeps the racks from being quick-released by persons unknown in the dark of the night. The knob comes off with the racks.
